Nobody's Cuter - Book Review
I am not a fast reader but I do like to read. Lately, I have read more than I used to. I'm trying because I know there is good stuff out there.
The most recent book I read was Nobody's Cuter Than You by Melanie Shankle. I have read her blog for years and find her more than hilarious and enjoyable to read about. This book was an easy read and, for me, just a good, happy book.
She talks a lot about her best friend throughout the book but also talks about her groups of friends from childhood, college, and motherhood. Each play a specific role and some overlap. I found a lot of joy in reading how deeply they loved one another through good times and tragic times. If I could pinpoint one quality about myself it would be that I love deeply. I love my family and I love my friends. It takes a lot for me to trust but when I do, I am super loyal and I love something fierce. Along with that, I get hurt very deeply too. It's a chance I take but most of the time, it is worth it.
I believe my favorite part of the book is at the very end:
"A good friend will love you, support you, and cheer you on. A good friend doesn't make you feel inadequate or like you're not good enough. A good friend won't dump you when someone better comes along or ask you to compromise who you are or what you believe. There are few things in life worth having as much as a few close friends , and it's worth trading popularity for authenticity. To find that person means we have to be that person."
I love that!
As I have been praying daily for God to reveal to me what true friends are, I pray that my friends always know how much I love them, how much I treasure their presence in my life, and how I pray that I reciprocate that friendship back to them.
"A friend loves at all times" Proverbs 17:17
